1990 Christmas Letter

Dad’s Letter 1990

To all our children:

What a year! And thanks to Jamie it’s not over yet!

Yes, God has again blessed our family with good health and a typical active “Barber” year – we’re special”.

Jamie is ready to tie the know but we’re not sure Scott will ever really be ready. This new year’s should be one to remember. Two Scott’s Lord help us all.

I think the 1st born is beginning to mello. That always happens about 30.

Terri has made sure 91 will remain active – Mother has started to shop – Dad’s betting (and praying) for a girl. Training kids and husbands is a full time job. Her pickle’s should be ready by Christmas 91. Bob’s working on a 2nd career and oh yes, Terri let Bob have his car!

Kelly got married BIG time. She made us all very happy and proud. She had a very good time at her wedding, as we all did. Now on to the job of wifedom. There is life after marriage. Hope she can now concentrate on finishing her college.

Scott is working hard at school and making himself and us all proud. Scott gave himself a gift of life this year and quit smoking. Hopefully his fine example will spread. Sacrifice is difficult. More study equals less fun – but rewards will come. Looking forward to beating Dad at tennis – that may will come.

Our family is without a doubt the best. It’s up to all of you to work together to keep it that way. Look to each other for help and strength. Dad’s has moved to a new career and feels very good about it. The cabin and the boat will always need your help. The family CAN fund has $168 cash and Bob owes $800.

Do something for someone else every day. Please keep God in your life. Set 91 goals now and check your oil!

Love ya, Dad!

PS: there will be a reward for keeping these letters!

Hopefully you will always remember the Dad’s messages and make it a little better world than when we got here. The gifts of love and charity are the things I would most like you to pass on to your children. Now please each of you open and read the name of your child whom will receive your gift.

Special Love,

Dad

1990 Letter #3

The gift 90

“The gift of love”

As parents, we really do worry that our children and grandchildren will get caught up in worldly material things. We do like to shop.

Because the Lord knows you don’t want for anything I am taking this opportunity to give a less fortunate child a Christmas gift or two in your name.

1990 Family Cabin Retreat

(save with other important papers)

Your weird Dad is writing another letter. We need help!

As you can see the cost of our family cabin continues to rise. The 18 thousand plus per year and 15 hundred per month is more than a little bit. This does not as you know include food and beverage, etc supplies.

The deal on the cabin is equal sharing. It matters not how much u and yours use it.

Some basics:

  1. Do something extra each time you visit. Examples:
    • Yard always needs raking and cleaning
    • Floor needs scrubbing
    • Window blinds need washing
    • Stove needs cleaning – dusting, all
    • Carpets need cleaning
    • Storage room cleaning
  2. If it breaks or you break it, fix it or replace it.
  3. Bring food and drink for yourselves and others. If you use it, replace it. No one can stock food and supplies for everyone else.
  4. If you burn wood – help supply it. Buy it. Chop it. Stack it. Gather it. Cut it. Etc
  5. We all would like to kick back but some one has to do the work.
  6. The boat is in sad need ot cleaning and polish before it goes back up
  7. It’s not enough to just do dishes and make beds. In order to keep the cabin we must all chip in to do the work as you all promised.

Think in turn of owners not visitors.
