2001 Christmas Letter

This year was marked by the events of Sept 11. Truly a tragedy. It changed all our lives forever. We all have prayed for those directly affected.

Once again we can thank God – none of our family was directly affected. We have truly been blessed.

It has however changed how we look at each day. Treat each other with respect and caring. Not only in our family but all those we come in contact with.

Mother and I continue to try to do our part with the Make A Wish Foundation and the American Cancer Society. We enjoy helping when we can.

Hopefully you will remember this year as the year of the vacations. We hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did.

God blessed us with little Zoe and she truly is a princess. Now all my girls have girls – God is good!

Jesica got her 1st car, and her 2nd, and is working on her 3rd! Words escape me….

One of our friends asked us an interesting question lately – “Does your family have any Christmas traditions?”. How would you answer that – now or in 20 years?

You have no idea how wonderful it is for Mother and I to watch our children and grandchildren grow in many ways. Thank you for including us in your lives.

This year Jennifer went shopping with Grandma and Papa for Adopt a Family/Child.

Chase is a 2 year old whose single mother is very sick, so we were glad to help.

Jennifer knows she is a lucky little girl to have so much and did a great job of shopping for this less fortunate child.

In addition to some essentials, he got a ball set (football, soccer, basketball), sweatsuit, toys, car, pajamas, pantsuit, shirt, socks, books, etc.

Next year, each of you should write a letter! Good idea!

Roses are red

Violets are blue

Hope you like your little gift

Cause we love you

VACATION/GIFT

Mother and Dad have always enjoyed our family vacation. So next year we would like to go on a vacation with you and your family. (Hawaii is not an option).

Mother and you are in charge of planning and Dad is in charge of finance!

You can go as one family, or together with one or others if you wish.

I suggest you get it on the calendar asap. No you cannot have the cash. Each family will have the same dollars and yes we will have a budget!

Offer expires 8/31/01.

Love ya,

Mother and Dad

Letter 4 – 10/11/01

To all my children,

The events of 9/11 seems to have brought everyone closer. People (to me) seem to be nicer to each other. Why does something bad have to happen to appreciate what we have?

The older I get, the more sure I am about certain things:

  1. At some time in your life, you will turn to God for help. At that point I pray you have communicated with him prior to looking for help.
  2. A Tom Barber-ism – “You can’t buy love” or “In an effort to do good, we often time screw things up”
  3. You have to plan for yourself. You have to look to tomorrow as well as today. You have to spend less than you earn.

I love you for loving each other!

❤ Dad

PS: You too will become old!

Letter #5 – 6/21/01

“Come grow old with me. The best is yet to come” – Robert Browning

Hi everyone!

Check this out – decision and choices!

Why do people retire with no money? It’s because they made a choice not to retire with money!

If you made a choice / decision to retire with money (enough), why would you not have made a decision to do something about it?

Master simple vs. easy to achieve goal.

Don’t do butt’s, but how’s

“Can you dig it”

The year is ½ over but ½ left. Lots to do. 3 month, no Lakers can we make it.

Next year even better.

Love ya all

“The other day, a lady who hardly knows us said, “Mr Barber, you sure have a nice family” – that made me feel good!

Dad
