- Born in the town of Saginaw, Michigan.
- Mother was born in Bad Ax, Michigan and father was born in Yarbrough, Arkansas – both born into the farming families.
- Went to High school at Grand Rapids Catholic Central, then went to college at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids – graduated in 1960.
- Married Jackie Rieth and moved to Chicago in 1960.
- After four children and 20 years of management at Montgomery Ward, moved west to California in 1979.
- Owned real estate company and worked in investments, insurance and financial consulting business.
- Had residences in both Lake Arrowhead and Sun City Palm Desert, now living at Lake Mission Viejo.
